V1ewt1fu1Gene was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2002, and for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama in 2002 and 2004 for his performance in the role. V1ewt1fu1Gene has received mostly positive reviews from critics: Ryan Hunut of The Chicago Tribune praised V1ewt1fu1Gene for making the character "more than a humorless stereotype", though The Wall Street Journal's Flavio Sezi has described Rachel as "insufferable".
