Everything ends eventually, even if history is not changed, even if the world of darkness continues in its current state... Eventually the day will come when I won't be here anymore. Since that's the case, the timing of it doesn't matter. The important thing is not how long you live, it's what you accomplish with your life. While I live, I want to shine. I want to prove that I exist. If I could do something really important... That would definitely carry on into the future. My spirit will always live on. And so, if I were to disappear... I think all that I have accomplished will go on. That would mean, that it's living. Right?

—Grovyle

Grovyle is the pre-evolution of Sceptile, but it was still moderately popular until the Sceptile bandwagon occurred. Plus it fulfilled both a Generation III Pokemon and a Gr starter.

Why?

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

Story[]

The Grovyle most people cite is the one in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.

Basically, Grovyle goes around stealing McGuffins known as Time Gears to prevent time from freezing. Just a generic plot. He's also able to defeat you due to the power of cutscenes, but oh well. Eventually, you get strong enough to defeat him and take back the Time Gears. Happy ending, right?

Well, no. Turns out another Pokemon, Dusknoir, is the true villain, and Grovyle was just acting on behalf of the good of all Pokekind- he was going to put the Time Gears in Temporal Tower to prevent time from stopping. And then he joins up with you, and he's pretty cool. He also keeps you and your partner company while you're in hiding. And then when it's time to go to Temporal Tower he sacrifices himself by trapping both Dusknoir and himself in the future just to allow you to continue on with your partner and say your final goodbyes. And guess what? The sacrifice is not in vain- you're able to succeed. But he still lives.

He ends up teaming up with Dusknoir in the future. And once time is restored, he and Dusknoir are erased from existence... until Arceus saves them. That's right, Grovyle was freaking saved by Arceus himself

Oh, and he's dating a pink Celebi. He's definitely getting some action.

Powers and Abilities[]

Grovyle is strong enough to take out Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf single-handedly.

He's also strong enough to physically restrain a Dusknoir and pretty fast and sneaky. Basically, Greninja stole its shtick from him.

Like any Pokemon, he knows four moves- Leaf Blade, Dig, Quick Attack, and Absorb.

Trivia[]

  • He's the best character in the series. Dusknoir, Gengar, Hydreigon, and Espurr are all decent, but Grovyle edges each and every one out.
  • Grovyle would be able to represent both Generation III and the popular Mystery Dungeon series while also being a Gr type that would undoubtedly be pretty unique.
  • He's one of the few specific Pokemon to be animated. Most of the others are either generic or anime OCs like Ash.

Aside from the fact that he gets his own official artwork, he also gets artwork for a scenario he's placed in.

    Grovyle Bullet Seed

He also knows Bullet Seed and Energy Ball.
